2017 Comic Book Movies Part 1 - Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader 2
Hey guys,

So it's high time I start making more of these Patreon exclusive stuff.  To start things off, I thought I'd share my thoughts and feelings on all the 2017 comic book movies coming out this week.

We'll make this first iteration public, but the rest will be only for Patrons who donate just a dollar a month for this exclusive content!  Enjoy!

So, the first movie on my list of expected 2017 comic films is Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader 2!  I'm really looking forward to this one.

If you missed the first movie, you should totally track this sucker down.  It came out this year, and, amusingly, is my favourite overall film of the four that Batman appeared in.  Isn't it funny?  In a year of Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, and The Killing Joke, it is the Caped Crusader, the reunion of Burt Ward and Adam West as the campy hilarity that, in my opinion, was the most enjoyable of all four movies.

The first film had it's flaws, to be sure, but they were far outweighed by what made it great.  There's something to be said about the classic fun and goofy Batman that I think is often underestimated for its entertainment value.  Not that I don't like the dark stuff, which tend to still function as my favorite amongst the many depictions of Batman, but this characteristic, this silly little world of gadgets for every situation, this over the top extravegence, this... everything that is classic Batman, it works for me and it works well.

Like Batman: The Movie, the writers really sell this thing.  They have the same sense of winking to the audience - they're in on the joke, so they make it the best joke that it can be.  Here is what sold me on Return of the Caped Crusader.  At one point, Batman turns evil when exposed to this drug, and what does he do?  He begins acting like modern Batman!  Brilliant!  So he grabs this one guy and dangles him over the edge of the building and everyone's like "Batman wouldn't do that!"

If you get the joke, it pays of magnificently.  And, with the annoucement that William Shatner will be playing Two-Face in the sequel, I'm really curious how this all goes down.  Check out the original if you haven't already and look forward to the sequel, because you better believe I will be.
