I can't believe it's August when just yesterday it was January, I swear. The local Walmart has me thinking about back to school and Halloween already and every day I think about any opportunity there is to vote.
While voting is still in the future, August postcards are here! I've been enraged about so much of what this administration continues to do - today Betsy DeVos has really been getting under my skin, so maybe I'll write to that witch next month. For now, we're addressing the proposed Title X Gag Rule.
Here's an Atlantic piece that explains what this proposes to do, and a grab from the first paragraph follows:
Late last month, the Trump administration proposed a new rule that could prohibit doctors who receive a type of federal funding called Title X from explicitly referring their patients to abortion providers. Under the new rule, only a pregnant woman who has already decided she wants an abortion—rather than one who is simply weighing her options—could be given a list of medical providers, and not all of the providers can be abortion providers. The rule might still be changed before it goes into effect.
We are sending our postcards to the men and women in leadership roles at the Department of Health and Human Services. Hopefully the imagery will prompt these individuals to think about what women's health really is and what their relationship to it is.
These will be mailed to you stamped and ready to go this week, and you'll have room to add some thoughts of your own and sign your name if you wish to do so.
What's getting under your skin lately and who should we write to next?
