One of my favorite things to do at Christmastime in Europe is visit the holiday markets. I sip mulled wine, watch people shopping, and enjoy how the market’s sparkly lights and candles brighten up the cold, dark December evenings.
A year ago, I took a birthday trip to a small Bavarian town just across the border from the Czech Republic and took full advantage of its tiny Christkindlmarkt. The market had just a few booths, a lumpy but festive Christmas tree, a little stage where local musicians caroled and played instruments, and a livestock pen holding two alpacas. It was the picture of peace, so of course I couldn’t help but imagine a little chaos. Several mulled wines later, I had the beginnings of this short story that I’m sharing with you today.
Thank you so much for reading my work.
Happy holidays—and cheers from Prague!
