Virginia State Police Make Arrest After Hit and Run Crash

WESTMORELAND CO., Va.-  On January 20, 2019 (Sunday) at approximately, 3:35 p.m., Virginia  State Police Senior Trooper J. Snyder responded to a hit and run, single  vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the proximity of the 900 block  of Mattox Avenue in Colonial Beach.  

Trooper  Snyder's preliminary investigation reveals that Steven Mayhew, 29, of  Colonial Beach,Va., was driving a 2002 Mercury Cougar northbound on  Mattox Avenue when he ran off road right into a yard of a residence, and  struck a tree.  Mayhew then veered back onto the roadway.  A male, 48,  of Colonial Beach, Va., heard the crash and came outside and stepped  into the roadway when Mayhew struck him.  Mayhew then left the scene of  the crash. 

The  pedestrian was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious,  but non-life threatening injuries.  Mayhew and the vehicle were located  with the assistance of Westmoreland Sheriff's Office at a near by  residence.  

Mayhew was arrested and transported to Northern Neck Regional Jail.  

Mayhew  was charged with; 1 count of Felony hit and run, Felony driving under  the influence, Driving after license is revoked (DUI related), and  Reckless driving.  He is currently being held without bond.  

The crash remains under investigation.
