Summary Statement
Intensified Board Drill for Fluent Reading of the Words
After all the words from one section of the list are on the board, use a pointer to conduct the drill and practice. In random order, call on each student, one at a time, to read all the words. Keep the rhythm going, skipping around the list as you point. The pace of the drill is just under the students’ frustration level. When a student misses a word, just tell the student the word and move on. Once every student in the small group can quickly and correctly read all the words from the chalkboard, begin the flash card drill.
