An article I wrote for Western Friend Magazine

Jul 3, 2019

I was asked to write an article for this Quaker publication about the spiritual struggles that come with self-promotion - a necessary part of my work. I've been working to express my experience around this for the last six weeks or so. A lot came up around how I struggle to follow the leadings I feel coming from Spirit (or God or the Universe or the Great Mystery or the Holy Ground of Being or whatever name works for you.)

It's a vulnerable thing, sharing such intimate internal struggles of my spiritual journey as a Quaker, as a performer, as an activist, as a person trying to make a living. I hope it resonates with some of you. I'd love to hear about your grappling with similar things.

(You can read the first page above and/or download the whole article below. My article was one of the two features for this issue, so you can read the whole thing on the magazine's website: https://westernfriend.org/ where you can also subscribe or buy this issue.)
