*2nd* Eisner Nomination!
Failing Sky has received an Eisner Award nomination for 2015! I was honored and stunned to be nominated in 2014, especially so soon after the novel started publication, and I honestly thought it was a fluke or a sympathetic panel, considering my naiveté with comics. To get nominated two consecutive years, by two entirely different juries, is such a fantastic compliment from the comics industry. It has made all the lonely toiling this last year worth it, and I'm going to take it to mean that I should keep turning it out despite the novel not being entirely financially self-sustaining (yet!) Before you think my hat size is getting to big, though, the competition for the Digital Comics award this year is, I daresay, even more intimidating than last year, so I'm not clearing any room on my mantlepiece… not that I have a mantlepiece. In particular, Bandette is one of the finest female-protagonist comics in the world right now, and Nimona by Noelle Stevenson was one of the webcomics I looked to for inspiration when dreaming up Failing Sky — I highly recommend them to you if you don't read them already. I'm also really happy to see a nomination for another of my favorite webcomic artists (though not in the webcomics category), Emily Carroll. http://www.monkeybraincomics.com/titles/bandette/ http://gingerhaze.com/nimona/comic/page-1 http://emcarroll.com/comics/darkness/ The Eisner winners will be announced at San Diego Comic Con on July 10th — wish me luck?
