The month of October will be governed by ATU XII “The Hanged Man” - here depicted as “Le Pendu” in the original Marseille deck, restored by the tireless efforts of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Philippe Camoin.
As I recently explained in the webinar and workshop on the thelemic Thoth Tarot, if you want to truly understand the Tarot you must start with the Marseille deck, and only after having understood its language you can truly move onto a further iteration of the Formulae of Attainment encoded in its Wheel.
"The Way of the Tarot: the Spiritual Teacher in the Cards" by Jodorowsky and Marianne Costa is your go-to book to do so. And so if you are looking for something new to sink your teeth in as the days grow longer and winter approaches, that's the book for you.
This month's card arrives way later than the usual, due to fact I am going to be very busy with a new experience for the next two months, something the students at Patreon have been informed about already in September; so if you are reading this and wondering where I disappeared, just bear with me for a while and all will be revealed in due time.
But since the cards never lie, it's telling that this month is under the aegis of The Hanged Man, a card often misinterpreted to represent only setbacks and pain, while in fact it speaks of quiet time, reflection, but also gaining on profound and important insights, and a type of knowledge that will prove priceless when we will be finally ready to use it to its full potential.
The Hanged Man reminds us all of Odin, sacrificing himself to himself and hanging for 9 days and nights in order to obtain the secrets of the Runes: you don't get more exalted than that.
When the Hanged Man appears, our projects and activities may be coming to an unexpected and abrupt halt. Don’t keep pushing forward, hoping that more force will drive you to where you want to go. Instead, surrender to the opportunity to pause and view it as your chance to reassess and re-evaluate where you are on your path. Something new is emerging, and you won’t be able to see it unless you allow the time and space for it to come through.
Given this month will end with the celebrations of Samhain, and it's traditionally correlated with the veneration of the ancestors and the dead, one can easily see the bigger picture at work here an now.
