Here are three podcast episodes - including two I consider among my best/most useful media appearances ever - to help guide you through 2020.
Against materialism, on RUNE SOUP 195
First, my appearance on Rune Soup. This conversation with magician and writer Gordon White provides one of the most comprehensive overviews of what a non-materialistic politics looks like. That includes non-materialistic sexual politics, non-materialistic environmentalism, non-materialistic socialism, and more. It's a challenging episode, but one absolutely needed for the year (and decade!) ahead. I also give practical tips on what to do in 2020.
Why the world is not ending, on THE DUNCAN TRUSSELL FAMILY HOUR 366
On which I talk with Duncan about the anxieties of our current moment and how there is a beingness standing in the way of our liberation, and how it obfuscates, especially, our ability to see that the world is not ending. We talk about why sex has such an important role in the years to come. And we do a ritual to keep the living in contact with the dead. In this case, I help bridge Duncan (alive!) and his spiritual teacher Ram Dass (very recently dead!). The experience was profound for Duncan (and Ram Dass too, I'd say). I've put the words of the ritual below; it's for those who have recently died, and it's created by Rudolf Steiner.
What to leave behind in 2020 on AGAINST EVERYONE WITH CONNER HABIB 94
On this episode of AEWCH I talk about what we need to leave behind in the 2010s so that we can bring the good forward. I wade through a wasteland of bad political ideas and gestures: once they were potent, now they are rotting our souls.
My deepest hope is that these episodes are helpful for you, and orient you to the spiritual, social, and personal currents needed to be who you really are in the year and decade to come.
Death ritual for the recently departed from Rudolf Steiner
Start by hearing the dead person in his/her voice saying something encouraging to you
This could be anything they said in life, even “you look good today!”
TO THE ONE WHO HAS DIED
(speak the full name of the person to be addressed - then start to read what's below in your inner voice)
In the light of world-wide thoughts
Now weaves the soul who was united with me on earth.
May the warm life of my heart stream out to your soul,
To warm your cold, to mitigate your heat.
In spirit worlds
May my thoughts live within yours,
And your thoughts within mine.
May my love be interwoven, as my heart's offering,
In the sheaths that now surround you,
Cooling your heat, warming all your cold.
Live -- love-upborne, light-rayed --on upward.
The love of my soul is reaching to you.
My love's pure sensing is streaming to you.
May they bear aloft and uphold you there.
In hope's wide heights, in love's clear spheres.
Into spirit pastures I will send
The faithful love which here we found,
That we might be united soul with soul.
So may you find my thinking ever loving
When from the spirit's light-filled lands
You, searching, turn your gaze of soul
To see what here in me you seek.
THE ONE WHO HAS DIED SPEAK (this is the spirit of the recently dead speaking to you, through you)
In radiant light it is there I feel the power of life.
For death has wakened me from spirit sleep.
Oh, I shall be and do from out me
What radiant power within me shines.
I was united with you, so remain united in me.
Together we shall speak the speech of eternal being.
Together we shall act where the results of our deeds are at work.
Together we shall weave in spirit, where human thought is woven,
In the Word of eternal thought.
