A couple months ago I was commissioned by Heart & Hands Health Collective (an amazing community acupuncture & holistic health clinic in Victoria) to create a portrait of their cute yellow clinic, to help with a fundraiser. Today was actually the launch day of said fundraiser! If you're curious about them and think you might be interested in supporting what they do, here's the link: igg.me/at/build-hh-2point0
This is the first building portrait I've ever done, and it was quite a fun experience! I played around with a couple pencils and gouache & watercolour paints to get the final result.
These folks are incredible and do so much for the community. I was going for regular acupuncture treatments to manage pain and discomfort a few years ago while waiting for surgery, and after. It made such a huge difference in my wellbeing-- it reduced swelling and pain so that I could walk, calmed my nerves and helped balance my emotions. The fact that they offer sliding-scale rates meant that I could get 10 free treatments through MSP, and could still afford to go weekly after those ran out. I'll never forget the amazing difference these folks made for me. It was an incredible shift, from me not being able to walk or do much on my own, to being able to get around and take care of myself, which additionally greatly benefitted my mental health around the whole situation. And, it was a much-preferred option to taking a whole bunch of weird drugs to treat the same things, and didn't have any side effects! And and-- you get to TAKE A LUSCIOUS NAP in their comfy chairs for an hour, with soothing music and the comfort of knowing others around you are being treated as well. It's like a naptime sleepover for the community, with the benefit of having skilled practitioners help heal what ails you. So. Good.
The last picture was taken after one of my sessions from that time.
Hope you enjoy the process pictures!
