Life coach and Iraq War veteran Lila Holley became a published author after a 22-year career as a U.S. Army warrant officer, when she leveraged thoughts and experiences captured through a depression-fighting journal into the 2015 non-fiction book, "Battle Buddy: Maneuvering the Battlefield of Transitioning from the Military."
Since then, Holley has become an anthologist, regularly collecting the voices of her sister-veterans in under two non-fiction series titles: "Behind the Rank" and "Camouflaged Sisters."
Each book presents the non-fiction stories and lessons from 12 to 29 women veterans. Topics range from tough topics such as healing from Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as examples and advice regarding leadership, mentorship, faith, and work-life balance. As such, they represent potential research sources for writers of military-themed fiction and non-fiction, and potential markets for others.
According to the author's Amazon Author Central biography:
Lila is on a mission to empower military women and women Veterans to take back the narrative and ownership of their stories. She believes there is no one better to tell these stories than the women who lived them. Lila has created multiple media platforms for women to share their stories and celebrates military women and women Veterans through her online radio show, virtual and live events, more planned book projects and her growing online community. The Sisterhood, Camouflaged Sisters' growing online community, is where military women connect with each other, access resources, and share their stories. Camouflaged Sisters is more than just books—it's a movement.
Variously available in print, audio, and/or Kindle e-book formats, Holley's books include:
- "Camouflaged Sisters: Revealing Struggles of the Black Woman's Military Experience" (2015)
- "Camouflaged Sisters: Silent No More!" (2016)
- "Behind the Rank," Vol. 1 (2017)
- "Behind the Rank," Vol. 2 (2018)
