Yo!
For this week, I wanted to continue on the smoke cloud series.
Shading is pretty straight forward when drawing. But when you're dealing with very rounded shapes that overlap each other, things start to get tricky!
The method I find the easiest is to:
1. Start off with circular, organic shapes. Don't make them completely round- add bumps there and there. Make it look natural (unless you're going for a different style).
2.Copy and paste the shape in a diagonal pattern. You can save some time doing this. Again, avoid perfect symetry when doing this so ensure you erase & add bits of shadow here & there.
3. Once you're content with the overall shape & direction of shade, start adding creases to give the cloud more depth. Polish.
Step 3 is by far the most difficult!
Try 3D perspective & shading exercises on paper( or anything NOT pixel art) to iterate through drawings quicker! I currently am studying these techniques & can say it is helping a TON.
Annddd that's it for today's post! Catch you on the next one! ;D
