What Yoga Props Should I Buy?

As yoga studios respond to the COVD-19 pandemic, some are canceling classes and others are advising students to bring their own props to class. I've heard from a few folks who are wondering what props they should buy to support their practice. This is a quick post to offer you my favorite options.

First of all, if you have a regular practice, I would recommend buying props that you use at the yoga studio. This would likely include things like foam blocks, a strap, bolster, and/or a blanket. The good news is that many of these items can be improvised, so I'll provide options you may already have at home.

Yoga Mats are generally required in studios, but depending on your practice, you may not need one at home. Generally, I recommend and extra-wide mat. Personally, I use the Jade Harmony XW mat available here:  https://jadeyoga.com/collections/yoga-mats/products/harmony-mat-xw?variant=1225925944  See my video below on how to choose a mat.

Yoga Blocks are the quintessential yoga prop. There are so many uses for blocks, check out the video below for some options. Some folks have improvised using stacks of books taped together - but I would never do that to my books! Generally, any yoga blocks will due. I have several of these from amazon that I like https://amzn.to/2U9yhiA  but if you're tall you might prefer the "big yoga block" from yogaaccessories.com:  https://www.yogaaccessories.com/5-inch-big-foam-yoga-block.html

You probably don't need to buy a strap or a blanket. Most folks can use an old belt instead of a strap but if you're looking to buy one, this is what I use:  https://www.yogaaccessories.com/10-foot-d-ring-buckle-cotton-yoga-strap.html     as for blankets, I recommend using towels or other blankets you may already have at home.

Yoga Bolsters are super posh and I think everyone should have at least one. BUT they're not very cheap and you can definitely improvise with pillows or cushions at home. Again, if you want to buy a bolster, this is what I use at home:  https://www.yogaaccessories.com/maxsupport-deluxe-rectangular-cotton-yoga-bolster.html
