The Patreon Submit System FAQ

This submit system is closed to new users and will be discontinued by August 1st 2021.

Hey! If you're reading this, you probably saw the Submit system in our site and want to understand more. Or maybe you're currently supporting us and need more info of how this works. This is the right place and we'll update this post with your doubts, so feel free to comment below. Let's start with the basics:

Q: Where is this form located and how do I access it?
You can find it here: http://patreon.indiemono.com/

You'll have access by logging in with your Patreon credentials when you have an account supporting Indiemono. It has to be easy and straightforward, but if you have problems accessing, send us a DM here.

Q: How does Patreon Submit works?
The Patreon submit form looks like this.

The email is a reference to confirm your user in Patreon.
The other field is for the Spotify track's URI or URL.
The form supports released music only. With Spotify links.

When a song is submitted, it's automatically added into our system and into a private listening space we use. These songs are uniquely sorted, with date and contact attached.

Q: How do I share the link?

You can now use either the URI or the URL to submit a song. A correct example will include 'track' somewhere on the URL or the URI. Here are two examples:
spotify:track:1r7rNbAcw17mhrap3ofjSb
https://open.spotify.com/track/1r7rNbAcw17mhrap3ofjSb
To copy the track URL/URI, just right click over the song in Spotify (not the album) > Share > Copy Song Link or Copy Spotify URI. If what you paste cointains 'track', it's all good.

Q: When do you listen to the music? How do you report it?
After checking that every song from Patreon is correctly coming through the system, we close the private playlist (with all the songs exclusively from Patreon) and take a weekend to check all of them, one by one. It's usually done like this every week or every 15 days.

We use spreadsheets to have the whole lot of info. When a song is supported, we add the info of where was added into the spreadsheet. If we can do something else with the music, like proposals for co-releases or asking for expert genre curation, we add that info too then.

Then we report all the info, check everything is alright and publish the list of songs and playlist links here via Patreon post.

Q:  What are the differences when I submit to your FREE submit system?
In Patreon: we compromise in a specific time-frame (a month cycle), we report a list of the supported songs weekly/biweekly and we'll prioritise patrons to run tests on other projects and to give priority updates. We also run contests from time to time!
We imagine Patreon as a closer space, where people wants to support our view.

The free system: we listen to the song on a random time-frame and we won't give any report back. We will support music in playlists too, but it's just less concrete in timings and day-to-day. Please use the free system if you can't afford supporting us.

Q:  How do I pitch to a specific playlist?
You're considered for every playlist we've got in our profile. You can't pitch specifically because our curation is organic and fluid. We check where it fits best without considering followers or popularity of the playlist or the artist.

Q:  Which genres are you covering?
You only need to check our Spotify profile for a sample. We consider that it is your responsibility to be aware of this. So for example, if you're sending us Thrash Metal, your music will be falling into a void.

But we check with artists and experts in different genres to have more playlists every now and then so we can cover more genres. So you might find new playlists every month and be supported there!

Q: Can you be more specific on genres you're not accepting?
Yes, here're some we're not supporting in playlists:

· Instrumental/Classical music
· Heavy Metal in general. Hardest we have is Rock/Indie Rock.
· Religious music in general, any genre.
· Country music, we don't have playlists yet.
· Generally speaking we only accept music in English and Spanish, even if sometimes we take other languages, it's a good rule of thumb.
· Poetry, podcasts or any other similar media that is not music.

Q:  If I'm paying here, why are you not giving me support? Why am I paying you then?
It's our philosophy of curation not to be a payola service. You can find people charging you for playlist placements but we'll never do that. We believe in hand-made, art-driven curation. If you're supporting us in Patreon, you're accepting these terms: You're not paying for a placement.

Your contribution is meant to be a way to support the time we devote to listen to music and keep building our playlists and systems. In return, we give you this bonus space to easily send us music and be closer to our updates. We keep improving each month taking your feedback as our primary focus to make it easier for you. Patreon gives us the chance to work in Indiemono full time, so thanks a lot for your support, always  :)

Q:   Why can't I send the same song twice?
If we listened to the song and we didn't playlisted it, that means we didn't find a place for it. We usually save songs even if we don' t support them that same month - or you can find we'll crawl through your profile for different songs that might fit better, because we loved your style.

Q:   Can you give me personal feedback about my song?
We don't have the time to do so right now. The amount we're asking for in exchange for our time is little more than a coffee - if you can't afford it, please keep using our free submit system, we'll listen to the songs there too.

In the future, we'll love to have a team that can give specific and professional feedback to any artist. Until then, we can only give you support like this. If you have ideas or would like to tell us how the ideal way for you to receive feedback would be, please comment here with insights.

Q:  What is the ratio of songs that you support?
For reference, we support about 10% of the songs coming from the Patreon system.

Q:  Why am I not receiving an answer on my DM/email/contact form?
Right now we're putting more effort in communication and you should be receiving a response in 24h during weekdays. If it's taking longer it's possible we've got bank holidays or we're just out for the weekend. Please understand we're only three in the team and the messages can pile up a bit.

Q: Is there a way to be more connected?
Yes! We've started a Discord where you can share messages with other users. Drop us a DM if you're a Patreon and we'll send you an invite.
