So I've just uploaded the newest version of Girl Games, Version 0.2.1: Prologue - which you can play online here and/or download here - and for those who haven't seen my last couple posts, I suppose I should explain what all this 'Prologue' business is about, right? (You can either buckle in for the long version, or skip to the bottom for the TL;DR)
Let's just say that the last version of the game was getting a little out of hand. I was trying to move forward with the new content while also plugging leaks, doing quick fixes and not really thinking about the main underlying systems that will make a full play through satisfying. Sure, it was working to a point, but at the back of my head I was stressing out, knowing that there were a few things I still hadn't figured out our would need to change at some point in the future. Hell, there were even a bunch of 'meaningful choices' (more on that term in a moment) that I was still pushing out of my head, telling myself I'd go back and patch in some stuff later on. Basically, I'd bitten off more than I could chew ...
So here's where Version 0.2.1 comes to the rescue. Basically I've started again - and this time I'm doing everything slowly and methodically, trying to make it exactly the game I envisaged. Sure it's still not a professional job, but I've worked in two layer images in all the scenes - so there's a foreground and background - making for more interesting visuals. Plus there's a better nav bar, wardrobe, dialogue system, keybindings, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Hopefully this version is much more slick and enjoyable to play?!
And then we get onto what's running underneath. I was such a rookie at the start of this project - I began creating it back in May 2019 - and I feel l've learnt a whole bunch since then. I've now finally wrapped my head around the difference between a somewhat playable story and a truly interactive experience with 'meaningful choices'. It's this second thing that I ultimately want Girl Games to be. I've got two main stats running now: a corruption count and also a feminized level system. There's other things too but those are the main ones: meaning depending on what level of feminization and what level of corruption the player is at, different options will open up for them. Plus, there will be some major decisions to be made as you go through the game: do you attent the Girl Games audition (if not, a 'self feminization' route opens up), which mistress do you pick, do you slack off from your studies, etc, etc. I want all of these things to have real juicy consequences.
In the prologue - which ends at the end of Day 1 - there's only a few corruption points to be accrued and no major decisions to be made. I think of it more like a tutorial/intro section. But after this, the next full section will be Week One, which WILL have a whole buch of decisions to be made and points to be gained ...
I hope all this is making sense to you. I know it's not a ton more content, and to some of you it might seem like a step backward. But it's the only way I can continue to work on the game without going totally insane! It's now exactly how I want it to be and I hope to have the next chunk (Week One) out very soon. I'm posting this update now so that any patrons that don't want to continue to support the game in this format have a couple days to opt out before the next billing cycle. And if anyone is missing the previous old version (0.1.5) or wants to take a sneek peek at some of the future content I'll be working into the new version of the game going forwards, you can still find it online here and download it here ...
I want Girl Games to be the absolute best it can be. My roadmap going foward is that I'll try and post a regular (weekly) blog on here, keeping patrons updated on my progress, and aim to have each in-game week's worth of content out as soon as possible. And as before, after Week Four/The Games is over, I want the world to open up into a much free-r experience, where the player can just do whatever the heck they want!
I've been working flat out on Girl Games - even putting aside my erotica writing - as I care about this game so much. So I hope you can see this new version as something positive too!
TL;DR - The old version of Girl Games was getting messy and unmanageable, so I've gone back to ground zero and reworked pretty much everything. This is the result! Currently it's just a single full day and should be treated as an intro - hence the name 'Prologue'. But there's obviously much more to come. I'm already at work on Week One right now. Should hopefully be out soon!
