With this video, Augusta begins a series of lessons that are explicitly directed to students. She is labeling them: Direct Teaching to Students (DTS). They are designed for teachers to be able to embed them in their distance learning classes related to specific educational standards.
This video is the first in a series focused on writing an essay that expresses an opinion.
Augusta uses the strategy: "Three Reasons, Causes, Results" from the book: Writing as Learning by Rothstein, Rothstein, Lauber. In the series of lessons, she will start with a very basic example and then guide students as they edit and elaborate their essays.
She is using her Touching the Spirit Teaching and Learning Patterns of Repetition and Rhythm (always) and three of the Nine Supportive Practices of Continual Search for Patterns, Insistence on Working Toward Mastery, Teacher Modeling, and Intensive Direct Instruction and Practice.
