The Episode: This week, my good friend (and official friend of the show), the talented screenwriter and Edgar award-winning author Jordan Harper returns to the podcast to share his wit and wisdom with us once again. In this episode, which runs roughly the length of STATE & MAIN and SPARTAN, we discuss the enviable filmography and singular critical theories of the Pulitzer Prize winning raconteur David Mamet. (Note: this episode contains spoilers, especially with regard to THE SPANISH PRISONER, HEIST, and SPARTAN, so please proceed with caution. Also, I made the mistake of wearing a new charm necklace without noticing how noisy it was so please forgive the occasional clicks!).
Patreon News: I was going to wait until next week to upload this episode but I just discovered that it's my one-year anniversary on Patreon so I wanted to share this with you as soon as it was edited to thank you for subscribing to and supporting this podcast all this time.
Your feedback, wisdom, and willingness to take part has made all the difference on the podcast as it's evolved from freewheeling casual conversations to something much more focused, professional, and (hopefully) enjoyable for you to listen to each and every week.
I know I need to get better at creating additional content here for you guys to enjoy and likewise, following up on any film recommendations that you have as part of your support tiers. Please do reach out if you're on a higher tier that has a film recommendation, Twitter thread, or Letterboxd list as its reward, and give me know a few ideas as to what you're interested in each month and I will jump into action.
Because these new thematic episodes are much more research-intensive than Watch With Jen installments were even six months ago, I probably won't be uploading as many free-flowing film recommendation episodes in the future. Luckily, however, it seems as though the new format is the one you guys tend to gravitate to as much as listeners as I do as the host! Still, I can definitely add in some bonus film recommendations at the end of these episodes to keep you in great streaming options as well.
Your support for Watch With Jen on Patreon has been invaluable and helps to pay the costs for RSS (which is what doles out the episodes to all of your favorite podcast platforms), podcasting equipment, a professional zoom account, and also film rentals or streaming channel subscriptions that I incur to prepare. And even if you can't support Watch With Jen as a paid Patreon subscriber, just listening to, rating, and/or sharing the show on social media has both helped it succeed and inspired me to try to keep improving it with each and every episode. Again, thank you for all that you do and I hope you'll continue to be impressed as we continue to learn and grow. Enjoy the show!
