Augusta’s Videos #144 and #145, addressed to teachers, were first in a series on the subject of preparing students for standardized tests. Video # 146 is the first in a series on the same subject, but is addressed to students, grades 3-6.
Augusta makes the point that there is a bank of background knowledge that is often needed in order to succeed on parts of these tests. She then teaches examples of key vocabulary and other background knowledge that typically can be part of standardized tests.
She uses a publicly released practice test item from Indiana’s ILEARN assessment that focuses on U.S. geography, specifically, the state of Alaska. She teaches vocabulary and background knowledge related to world and U.S. geography and then specifically Alaska. She also teaches the meaning of words in the prompt for one of the test items.
This video ends abruptly because Augusta wanted it to be shown to students in two shorter parts.
This lesson is continued on video # 147.
