#147: Standardized Tests--Lessons Directly Addressed to Students: Part #2

Miss Augusta's Collection index at the Patreon Subscriber's Site Map webpage.

Augusta’s Videos #144 and #145, addressed to teachers, were first in a series on the subject of preparing students for standardized tests.  Videoes # 146 and #147 are the first in a series on the same subject, but are addressed to students, grades 3-6.

This video #147 continues from # 146 and so there is no formal introduction as Augusta usually includes on all of her videos.

Augusta makes the point that there is a bank of background knowledge that is often needed in order to succeed on parts of these tests. She then teaches examples of key vocabulary and other background knowledge that typically can be part of standardized tests.

She uses a publicly released practice test item from Indiana’s ILEARN assessment that focuses on U.S. geography, specifically, the state of Alaska. She teaches vocabulary and background knowledge related to world and U.S.  geography and then specifically Alaska. She also teaches the meaning of words in the prompt for one of the test items.
