The roman Forum, Rome (Italy) 2016. Rome is one of those cities that whenever someone wants to build something and digs a hole, they find something of archeological significance. And when they find something, the whole work comes to a halt, the archeoogists move in for a while and then until they give the all clear a developer needs to take a break and just wait it out. Heritage is precious and priceless for historians and archeologists, as it reveals more of the past of a town, a people, a country and empire.
Remember when I asked you in a previous post to create your own life time line? Did you read that post? (here it is again - https://www.patreon.com/posts/48821598)
Well, I am back to that subject because knowing where your own heritage is super important, clearly as the subject poped into my head again as I was trying to find the right image for the post, and as always I listen to that inspiration we call "spirit" so I brought up the subject. You are probably wonder why is it so important? On two separate discussions with clients today, ancestry came up - both times we went back in hisotry and explored the heritage - one very European and the other African, two very distinctive cultures, two very distinctive set of rules of being. And as i was listening to the clients and their musings about their own lives it showed how much all that history is a player in their lives. One client and adult the other a teen, one has lived on this planet for half a century, the other a few months away from being and adult. One was talking with enthusiasm about life and the hopes for her own child, the other telling me they are not afraid of dying but are afraid of living. One looking to the future, the other not being able to imagine a future, one recognising the hardship of what they have lived and celebrating success, the other succeeding to ovecome the hardships of but not recognising the same success. And for both ancestry played an important role, because they are the people they are toay because of those who came before them. One recognising that in order to transcend their own reality they have to offer that which is the best for their child; the other not knowing what transcendence means and therefore not being able to overcome her own limitations. They both know their own story but one has the wisdom of the age, whereas the other is just setting off.
Where are you on that time line? Are you at the beginning, the middle, toward the end? Are you an archeologist of your own past, a historian of your own events; or are you a futurist looking back to today? How often do you stop to dig deeper, or to recognise if that which you found out about yourself is it a treasure to keep, or discard it as just noise? Can you be a true archelogist and recognise the artifact worth keeping? Or are you hoarding everything just in case? Can you let go of that gime that you thought is a dimond but it is just grime?
Ancestry, honor and respect, lineage, heritage, archelogy, history - different words, but all encomapssing one concept - we are the history of all those before us. Exploration is key.
