Present and future. Two-time lines that seemingly do not exist at the same time, as we see it from our linear existence, and yet in this picture it is almost as if the same couple exists in different locations.

What would you do if you could see all time-lines at the same time? Would you make any changes?

Would you change anything about your past?

And if you made a change, would you still be the same person you are today?

I have wondered a few times if I wanted to change anything about my life; if I wanted to take a different choice; and actually, upon reflection, I do not think I would.

If I changed even the smallest of things, I would not be writing this. I would not have exhibited my photos internationally. I would not have made such a difference to thousands of people’s lives. I would not be living the life I am living now. Sure, just like you, I have been through many trials and tribulations that very few of my nearest and dearest know about; and yet despite all the difficult moments, which of course now have passed. I stand here content; smiling and looking through my past, experiencing the here and now and contemplating a future with gratitude, honour and respect. I do honour every human being who I have crossed paths, from my earliest bullies to the latest people who sing my praises and everything in-between.

At the time, I did not know the point of those difficulties, but through the prism of time I realise that without those events I would be a different person and perhaps I would be the oblivious consumer (as one of my clients said), but would I be leading a happier life? Perhaps. For they say, ignorance is bliss; and yet I cannot feel but sorrow for that version of me; for if I have made those choices, then I would indeed be different, perhaps less enlightened about the possibilities of all of us.

Have you considered what kind of human being you would be without those events that continue to plague your existence? And yet perhaps you are content with your choices and you have come to the realisation that you are the person you have always meant to be, so perhaps for you the past present and future are all combined in a blissful life. Whichever your reality, know that you can only do the best you can with the resources you have available at the time, and that is sufficient at the time.

We can all be wise when we have insight, but for us at the moment; time needs to elapse, maturity is achieved in time.
