Duality

Jun 23, 2021

In 2018 we decided to go on a romantic week-end to Telford, if you are from the UK don't laugh, Telford can be an enjoyable place to visit if you know what you are looking for. Needless to say some people laughed when I mentioned where I was heading to for the weekend (at the time). On our car journey there we got caught in a storm, and adverse weather makes for amazing images.

What caught my eye in this image is the duality of tones. On one side the sun is emerging from behind the clouds, on the other the clouds or ominous and threatening another downpour. Duality is something that is within us all the time. Just like in the image itself we have a side which is all sunshine and rainbows, but we then have the darker side; the one that we are told to hide away from the world. The duality within is also the duality outside, light and dark, good and evil, winning losing, achieving and failing. Things come in pairs, positive and negative. Even within a singularity protons and neutrons bunch up together to release a great amount of energy. We can not have one without the other. We can not have success without failure, we can not have day without night; and sadly we can not have only love, some hate still exists.

How do you deal with the duality you see around you? How do you reconcile the lightness of being with the dark moments of existence? How quickly do you bounce back from failure?

I remember in childhood being so angry when I would loose at a game, and I was told by my parents that I can not win all the time; but when you are 5 the concept of loosing is not one you are willing or able to accept. I wonder how many of you are ok with losing? I wonder how many of you are ok with failure? How many of you are still afraid of the dark?

I find myself reminding my clients how failure is something we had to achieve to be successful, and perhaps I spoke of this before in a previous blog, but think about it, how many time did you fail when you were a toddler? How many time we needed to not get things right in order to evolve? Do you think that by repressing things helps?

Duality is a state of our reality, we can not beat it, so I guess it is time to embrace it, and use it to our advantage. So, the next time you feel anxious imagine it is the most exiting thing you have done in your life – your mind and body won’t know the difference. Next time you experience failure, consider what an amazing opportunity to try again and use all that experience at failing to build a new opportunity. Let’s face it if you tripped and fell, you would not just sit on the floor for all eternity; you would no doubt get up and carry on. Let’s use the energy contained within this duality to help us propel forward into the future.

As always join in the conversation in a comment, or journal your thoughts. We are ready to evolve, join us on the journey of discovery.
