September Listen Local 2021

Hi sweet people, welcome to September's check in. It's a beautiful morning in Lucerne Valley, the clouds are helping to block out sweet sister sun who has been beating me DOWN these past few months. Gah! I'm trying to acclimate but mostly I'm just having to hide out indoors and that gives me the sads. So, these upcoming temps in the low 90s are a welcomed relief and will give us a chance to continue to spiff up Hart Acres for your visit this Fall. Ok, so here's what's what this month.

September's Listen Local Show is now playing and features a ton of great songs introduced by the artist. I mostly share music from San Diego and The High Desert but this month there is  music from Massachusetts, Germany and Taiwan, too! Click, hear:  Listen to SEPTEMBER 2021 Listen Local Show by ListenLocalRadio.com in The LISTEN LOCAL Show playlist online for free on SoundCloud  AND! You can hear The Listen Local Show I produce especially for Rez Radio the first Sunday of each month, thanks to Producer Chris and his dog, Jack. Tune your radio to 91.3FM on September 5th at 6pm for the first show with our same format, songs being introduced by the music makers. Jack's Tracks - Rez Radio Yay!

Ok, let's talk about Band Camp. www.ListenLocalRadio.com/band-camp  28 acts on 2 stages at the remarkable and remote Palms Restaurant in Wonder Valley. Camping on Friday and Saturday night, Open Mic on Friday, Festival on Saturday, vendors, artists, nonstop music and we send you off with a sweet song circle on Sunday morning. The lineup features 10 San Diego and High Desert bands of various genres and 18 singer/songwriters who will be performing "in the round" in sets of 3. Artisans selling their hand crafted wares, artists painting live and a giant interactive art project for all to release their creative energy. Jon Edwards and Pat Scanlon are in charge of sound production, I'm stage managing so you KNOW we'll be on time. $60 per person and half of that fee goes to the band of your choice. Tickets will go on sale on October 1st once we determine whether it's safe to have such a joyous celebration of music and socialization. We'll be making that determination on 9/15 and if it's ON we'll give the folks who have RSVP'd (rsvp to me!) an opportunity to purchase their tickets, then if there's room, we'll open up tickets sales to the public on October 1st. Fingers crossed and needles in the arms! In the meantime, check out the Facebook invite page for posts featuring music and videos from our performers. xo

Hart Acres received press in the San Diego Troubadour! Read JT's story now! Fall events at Hart Acres will proceed as planned since our gatherings are smaller, limited to just 20 people. Chick Camp takes place the first weekend in October, The Songwriter Sleepover will happen on the 15th/16th and we're planning a Berkley Hart songwriting retreat and something exciting for Halloween Weekend so stay tuned and keep your eye on the temperatures, it looks like September will have some prime desert weather! Check the calendar for openings and book your stay at www.HartAcres.info

Our monthly song circles continue on Zoom and besides our regular group of awesome, supportive songwriters we get some great unexpected pop ins, too! Drop in to play or just listen, it's free thanks to our Patreon family! The last Sunday of the month from 4pm to 6pm.

This past Sunday I enjoyed some post circle discussion with regulars Grant Bentley and Michael Deluca and they were talking about offering interested songwriters some honest, heartfelt reviews of their music and/or performances and I thought it was such a great idea that I hit record and now they're official! Check it out....

Calamity will be appearing on Troy Cook's Palapalooza mid September and I'll share the link with you here next month or you can find it on the socials after the 13th. We're not scheduled to perform until Band Camp Music Fest and then at the end of November we'll be opening for The Farmers at Winstons in OB! Hopefully. *sigh* What a crazy life we're all living, sheesh. HeyCalamity.com

I donated my photography services to the SDMAs this year and spent the awards backstage snapping pics of the happy winners. I made a little video of all the fun at the step and repeat and then posted the fixed up photos along with Jonny's random backstage captures here on Facebook. A good time was had by all. xo

I have turquoise hair now but other than that, that's it for this month, friends. I overflow with gratitude on the first of each month when Patreon sends me your good tidings. Without your support I would be unable to keep my various subscriptions and equipment updated and upgraded in order to share music and art and all the inspiring stuff and if I couldn't do that I would wither away with the wind. *sigh* Not to be dramatic but it's true. I love my job and adore you fine folks here on Patreon for allowing me to work. For real. Thank you.

Those of you who have been on my email list since I started it in 2003 I thank you, too, for being here all of these years and hope this new newsletter, er, I mean BLOG format is not too inconvenient. The newsletter I MEAN BLOG is now generated from Patreon as a gentle reminder that for just $2 a month you too can help ensure that Listen Local Radio continues for another 18 years. Thank you for your support, pals, it means the world.  xo Cathryn Beeks

p.s. This is one of the stages at The Palms, viva la Band Camp!
