I am posting this story for you early because - Halloween! (It'll go live as a freebie for the public on Nov. 7th - but Patrons get it early!)
I am not terribly good at horror, in my opinion, so don't feel bad if you don't think I am either. I know I am no Stephen King. But I like to try my hand at different genres now and again to flex my muscles. And believe it or not, this idea came to me because something was irritating my eye and I couldn't wear my contacts for a few days. Weird where inspiration comes from. I'll tell you what though, I learned a lot of interesting things about pearls, pirates and 17th century sailing.
Now, to avoid spoiling the story for you in any way, I'm going to give you a link to read later. Inspiration for the title character Rua Hatu came from a Tahitian legend I read while researching pearls. You can read the leged at the very bottom of this web page. It's the legend about Tahitian pearls. That is all I am going to say, otherwise I might ruin the story for you.
I hope you enjoy the story and that it is sufficiently piratey and bloody.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
