Hey Folks!
Well, I never actually expected to be making this announcement, but my last full day at Cemetery Dance Publications will be this Friday, January 21. After that, I'll be consulting a few hours a week to help continue the transition of my responsibilities to other staffers and on general business matters, but after nearly 20 years, the daily grind is coming to an end.
I never expected to say this for two reasons:
1) When I was hired in 2002, CD was my first job out of college, and it was the perfect fit from day one. Rich and the team are great to work with, my wife and I were immediately treated like family, and I discovered how much I love the world of small press publishing. It was the job I always wanted without ever knowing it.
2) What else was I going to do?
Well, thanks to those of you here on Patreon, I can actually try writing as a full-time gig, which was the dream when I was kid and not something I ever thought would be possible at this point in my life.
I'll also continue with my plans for Lividian Publications (4 or 5 books a year, give or take) because, as noted above, I love publishing collectible books. Plus: juggling the production process and all of the business matters won't be quite so intensive for a small venture like Lividian compared to something big like Cemetery Dance.
That was an aspect of my day job that most people didn't know about. It was never a 9 to 5 job, more like a "whenever you're awake, you're thinking about something for the business" kind of job. It was always interesting and fun, but not only did it consume most of my time, it also devoured my "mental energy" by the time the day was done.
So... I have some more thoughts on where I started as a writer and where I'm going, but I'll save those for another post. Mostly, I just wanted to take a moment today to say THANK YOU to everyone who has made this big change in my life possible by supporting my work. Thank you.
Lots of news is on the way! Thank you again for your continuing support and enthusiasm!
Best,
Brian
P.S. The first batch of chapbooks are going out TODAY, and the rest should be picked up tomorrow!
