Tentacled

This is the piece of digital art that I created to accompany my Icon Alchemy astrology blog post for April 29th, 2017.

One of the hallmarks of this developing body of digital work is my obsession with making familiar things look alien, no doubt brought on by the experience of moving home after nearly 30 years away and wrestling with the strangeness that things have devolved into here during that time.  Having moved across country before, I am well aware that it can take a while to adjust to putting a continent between oneself and one's established social networks, habits, and conveniences, even under normal circumstances so there is that to factor into my experiences now, but since this move happened under not-so-normal circumstances and situation here is fairly surreal even to casual observers, I've been immersed in a sense of unreality in the months since I've moved that has grown with time, not dissipated as hoped, so my art is likely to continue to reflect that for the foreseeable future.  Of course, whether or not someone else looks at a vase of flowers that I've transformed the colours and textures of and sees tentacled creatures and a face-hugger coated in alien slime remains to be seen - given that my Photoshop skills are still rudimentary at best, my guess is that the creatures I see in these images are still only inhabitants of my own mind, barely hinted at to the average viewer.  Probably just as well.  ;P
