Absolute Good, Absolute Evil, and Alignment in RPGs

Alignment is one of those things that's guaranteed to start an argument, but we often miss the big implication of it. That implication being that there is no room for personal morality, cultural shaping, or religious teachings... alignment means that good and evil exist on a spectrum, and that they are objective things. That you can be objectively good, or objectively evil, is something that's antithesis of most people's lived experiences, and that's something we need to think about when it comes to our games.
