An American Ascent ~ Expedition Denali Film Premieres in Washington DC
Back from the mountain for almost a year most of the members of Expedition Denali gathered as a group for the world premiere of the new film that documents their climb of the highest peak in North America. An American Ascent details the journey of the first team of black climbers to attempt to reach the summit of Mount McKinley, also know as Denali, in June of 2013. Before an excited audience of viewers in the Jefferson Auditorium at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington DC members of the team shared their story of adventure with the help of filmmakers Andy Adkins and George Potter of Distill Productions. Timed to occur during America’s Great Outdoors week in our nation’s capital, the film screening was a highlight of several events scheduled in the Washington DC area meant to inspire more people from all walks of life to spend time in nature. With a clear message aimed directly at people of color, An American Ascent was created to both motivate and encourage minorities, particularly African-Americans, to recognize the many opportunities they have to enjoy a life of adventure through outdoor recreation. Against the backdrop of a full-scale expedition to the highest physical point in the United States. The film hopes to demonstrate the enormous potential for under represented segments of the U.S. population to aspire to the most audacious goals. With hopes of entry into several adventure film festivals through 2015 An American Ascent will be available for general viewing at several special screening events to be scheduled soon.
