April, May, June, July, August...

The craft of writing rests upon three unshakeable pillars, three skills which must be mastered before a person can call themself a writer. They are:

1) Procrastination
2) Alcoholism
3) Actually typing words

I'm perhaps not as fully committed to the alcoholism as I ought to be. If I'm honest with myself, I know my liver can up its game. My procrastination skills are rock solid. When it comes to deadlines and appreciating their whooshing noises, Douglas Adams couldn't have touched me in his prime.

I may be having a teensy problem with Item Three, though.

Though I managed to hammer out a short story in June (which I'm looking to get placed into an anthology), progress mostly stopped on Pride & Prejudice & Pneumatics. I spent most of July staring blankly at a novella I've been working on for a while, trying to figure out where the story is going off the rails.

April and May? I don't want to talk about it.

But hey, it's August now. The air is warm, the sky, is bright, and the pokemon are frolicking. Another distraction, but one that gets me exercise. But if I'm not fully back into the groove of writing, I can at least kind of feel myself settling into a productive routine.

Here's hoping it lasts. Thank you for sticking with me.
