The harpsichord-piano debate is a historical question about whether keyboard pieces written by baroque and early classical composers should be performed on the modern piano. The ‪‎harpsichord‬ being obsolete in the twentieth century, many performers prefer playing them on the piano; the question, however, remains open: which instrument would the 18th-century composers have preferred if they had known the possibilities of the modern instrument?
