Broken Piece of Body On Your Fork
This is quite different than the comedy music I normally post but I feel pretty emotionally charged about this piece.

It's definitely from the viewpoint of a Vegan which I am not. I am a lowly pescatarian.

The lyrics are from this old British farmer and the old British farmer got the lyrics from an M.E. King poem. It's a little like the game telephone.

Here are the lyrics to  my version which are  pretty much the lines from the old British farmer put into a song.

BROKEN PIECE OF BODY ON MY FORK

Am

We’re living in a nation

Dm

where there’s growing condemnation

CE

of what is done to those who cannot talk

Am

I was blind to all their pain

Dm

so I couldn’t feel the shame

CEAm

in that broken piece of body on my fork

Am

Then I wondered could any child

Dm

breed a bird that can’t be wild

CE

to eat its wings, take off its legs and head?

no.

Am

So we pay for hidden slaughter

Dm

’til we’ve addicted sons and daughters

C E

to our habit of eating the dead

Dm

And it’s not so very long

C

since who could see the wrong

G#mAm

in breeding humans as slaves without pain

Dm

It could be a woman without a vote

C

or killing a leopard for its coat

G#m E7

did we ever see the evil of the day?

Am

So do you think you’re any better

Dm

now the animals we fetter

C E

outnumber every human ten to one?

Am

And many children hardly eat

Dm

because their food has fed your meat

C E

while the blame for this shame you pass on

F

so give me avocados

C

and I’ll eat tofu burgers

DmG

you can even give me black bean curd

F

but please, don’t give me bread

Am

if it’s wrapping the dead

Dm G G#dim

remains of the body of a bird………

Am

for every piece of flesh you buy

Dm

you're paying to breed the next to die

CE

by compassion no longer we led

Am

and for the cow is worse i fear

Dm

they are raped every year

C

take every calf take all her milk

E

until she is dead

Am

this choice you say

is your right

Dm

that you can eat just

as you like

C

and it’s merely an opinion

E

that I voice

Am

but your choice, kills so many,

Dm

This opinion, kills not any.

C

And your victims,

E

you give them any choice?

F

so there is more to avocados

C

and eating tofu burgers,

Dm

Than minimizing illness

G

and your girth!

F

No less than Einstein did resolve,

Am

From eating flesh we must evolve,

Dm

or mankind, he said,

May not

G G#dim

Survive on earth!

Am

The age on which we're living

Dm

was ever more missgiving

C

of what is done to those

E

who cannot talk

Am

Are you blind to all that pain

Dm

can you not feel the shame

C E

in that broken piece of body

Am

on your fork
