Captain Marvel
Here she is! A full color, with supposedly minimum background, commission of Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, whom I love to draw.  The client's primary instruction was to not make her costume black (go for blues), and include a nebula.  I may have gone overboard with the nebula, but once I started doing the visual reference research, I knew I was screwed and had to take it there.

The primary movement here is a spiral up Carol's leg around and around into the birthing star to the upper right.  The ridiculously-long sash (like I tend to go for) also works with the outer dust cloud of the nebula to form a framing circle around Carol.  The color work here is primarily in complimentary colors.  The client was specific in wanting a purple nebula, so a lot of the choices were made for me, though I had control over the implementation. Purple was really best though, since Carol has less golds and yellows than other colors, so they play well and aren't gaudy.

The scan unfortunately flattened out some of the depth of field I built between Carol and the nebula.  She really pops out from the background on the actual artwork.

I'll be putting together a Patrons-only post that includes the full-res image so all of the colored pencil work, especially on the face,  can be seen, as well as the completed prelim, pencils, and inks.

Copic marker, acrylic paint, and colored pencil on 11x17 smooth bristol board.

Hope you all like it!
