How I ended up on Patreon:

The quick and dirty explanation is that, after more than 17 years, I was informed that [H]ardOCP was no longer able to pay me and, with no warning at all, I was let go. Honestly, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Since I am an independent contractor, there is no unemployment benefits, no retirement or anything like that at all. My job was my family's only source of income and, as most of you know, my wife had emergency surgery for a ruptured brain aneurysm just over a year ago. The medical bills from her hospital stay have decimated our savings. Obviously I needed to hit the ground running so I reopened Hypothermia. You can see a more detailed description here but the gist of the story is that I have turned to Patreon to pay the bills while I get the site off the ground.
