Children of the Stars

I had an idea while riding my motorbike through the MA highways… the chaos of the morning news swirling in my head. It's easy to come to several conclusions after just five minutes of world news coverage:

  • People are fucked.
  • The planet is fucked.
  • We're fucked.

But as I was forced to focus on the road ahead of me (one of the benefits of two-wheeled travel), I realized that we're all the same thing. Palestinians and Russians and Transgendered and Trump supporters and Hondas and Marmots… everything we know of, everything we hate, and everything we'd die to protect is all the same thing.

All of it came from the stars.

Once upon a time, before/at/during the big bang, we were all compressed into a singularity of mass that contained every shitty poem I've ever read or written, every awesome meal I've paid too much for, and all the people I've slept with.

Somehow, in the eons since then, we grew apart from each other. But that doesn't change the simple fact that all of us are part of the same family.

All of us came from the stars.

SIDE NOTE: YOU CANNOT IMAGINE HOW MUCH I WANT SOME COOL ANIMATION FOR THIS VIDEO. Someday.

Lyrics:

We were so much closer

fourteen billion years ago.

All our phobias and hopes

singularly were composed.

We were young

and burned like the fires that forged the sun

till someone fired the starting gun.

Heaven knows what we'll become.

Nothing known could stop us

as we charged into the night

flying at the speed of light

leaving parts of us behind.

We got cold-

drifted apart as we grew old.

Memories burned and lies retold.

Do you remember the light you hold?

CHORUS:

We are children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

Whether we're born of dust or monkeys,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

Whether we're born of farms or factories,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.

Everything around us

comes from the same place:

Every breath you take is stardust,

just like the smile on your face.

We are lost,

searching for light at any cost

seeing more as we cast off

the burning rage that we once sought.

CHORUS:

We are children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

Whether we're born of mud or mountains,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

We are children of the stars.

Whether we're born of whores or virgins,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.

Whether we're born of gold sulphur,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.

Whether we're born of dreams or nightmares,

nothing changes who we are:

We are children

children of the stars.
