Cover art notes for "A Bridge Just Far Enough"
Originally, the bridge in the story was a confection of red wrought iron swirls and spirals, giving a delicate, filigree look to something that was supposed to support human weight for unmeasured lengths across the sea. Then I stumbled across this photo, and the bridge became a rickety wooden thing suspended on ropes with a rope strung for a handrail. Which is completely impossible at the length it's supposed to be. Which is precisely the point. The photo is "A long and narrow bridge" by Miika Silfverberg, who published it on Flickr and licensed it for reuse under a CC BY-SA 2.0 license.
