Here are some images from my visit to Batak last year. This town was the site of an awful massacre back in 1876, which saw an estimated 5,000 Bulgarians brutally slaughtered by Ottoman soldiers.
The town itself is a strange mixture of beautiful scenery and awful history. Writing about it will certainly be a challenge – but I think it will make a very interesting article for the site, once I get around to doing it justice.
