I grew up with this holiday as the day of spring, smiles, flowers, gifts and women being revered like goddesses. And I wish you the same!
If anyone in the West has a different understanding of this holiday, it speaks of the country you grew up in, not about the holiday. If someone thinks it pins a woman into a traditional gender role, ask the head of RT Margarita Simonyan, who says that she gets to enjoy being treated like a woman, a door opened and chair pulled for her, while also being a high powered career woman with global influence, who never experienced an incling of any gender discrimination in Russia.
Or ask me, and I'll tell you the same. Meantime, if I had a dime for every time I've heard complaints about gender discrimination while in the USA, I'd be truly rich!
As to March 8, it is a positive and beautiful day, and I hope everyone treats it as such.
Since it's the International Women's Day, this is the way it was depicted on vintage Soviet Postcards. Not only no gender, but also no race discrimination:
In the past I wrote several posts about it on Lada Ray Blog. Check'em out below!
