Developer Update 10-2-16

Hello and welcome to the Patreon update for October! So, there’s a lot to cover today let’s get to it. First off T-Runner’s release is right around the corner so that’s been a huge focus for me. Everything is on schedule and save for some kind of freak accident we should be able to release on time. The game has been content locked and so now all that’s left is to fix some remaining bugs and ship it. As such I’ve put together a build that should be mostly representative of the final game and uploaded it for $5+ patrons to test out and potentially find any bugs that I haven’t found already haha. So now I’d like to go over what's new in this final build.

The big addition is the new background buildings and parallax effects. There’s a few little easter eggs hidden in the buildings, see if you can find them. The creation of the buildings wasn’t too difficult but getting the parallax effect to work properly took some effort. I won’t bore you with my troubleshooting adventures but at the end of the day I’ve got something that mostly works and looks alright. Another big fix I’ve been able to make is that leaderboard filtering finally works! It took a lot of work to figure it what the issue was but once I found it I realized how simple it was. I also added a new, better way to tell which filters are being applied so that’s nice.

Some of the more minor additions include some new platforms that aren’t that new, rather just some new sizes. These new sizes should help with the balance of the game since it can be pretty unfair at times I must admit. I can still make some tweaks if necessary but hopefully this will work out nicely. Another addition to the game has been the inclusion of a new music track that plays while the player is running. I think it came out really well. If you like it to then I have a wonderful surprise for you that may or may not actually be a surprise. All of my $5+ patrons will be getting a copy of the soundtrack on itch.io. Now you probably already knew this since I had to send out new keys that include the soundtrack but just in case you missed that message now you know. The soundtrack will be available for purchase alongside the game for $1 and all the profits from soundtrack sales will go directly to the artist who wrote the music.

Speaking of the release, let’s talk a little bit about what’s going to happen after the launch of T-Runner. Well first I’m going to spend the launch week supporting the game since I suspect there will be some issues that have slipped through or weird edge cases and whatnot. Then for what's left of October I’m going to take a bit of a break to relax after the stress of launching a game. I’ll still be doing any support issues that pop up of course. Then in November, or actually probably still in October knowing me, I’ll begin planning my next project. I have a good idea of what it’ll be but I don’t want to reveal too much just yet since things are likely to change.

So that’s pretty much it for the moment. I’m sure there’s things I’m forgetting but this should be most of it haha. Thank you all again for supporting my work, it means so much to me. It’s been great to have you all along for this ride and I can’t wait to share T-Runner with the world. Thanks again,

Jennifer
