The other day I shared a post featuring 14 ways we can support Black creatives. In today's post, I'd like to focus on some of the Black, book-related content creators that we can all add to our Instagram feeds.
Only add these creators if you like what they're sharing. Once you've followed them, do engage with their posts with likes and comments so that the algorithm knows to not bury their content.
Read the books they're recommending - not just over the next month or so but from here on out!
Remember: it's not appropriate to send any of these creators a message asking them for recommendations to top up your reading lists. They've already put hours of work into sharing various reads. Grab a pen and paper and make the list yourself!
There are hundreds upon hundreds of Black bookstagrammers so this is merely a small selection. Do spend time diversifying your timelines but know that the work does not begin and end there. Donate, sign petitions, offer your services, and work to create long-term change.
What accounts would you like to recommend? Leave them below!
FOUR THINGS YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW:
1. Add some of the above accounts and spend time engaging with their posts.
2. Sign this petition to improve maternal mortality rates and healthcare for Black women in the UK.
3. Donate to this fund for homeless, Black trans women.
4. Make a list of documentaries and films you need to watch on anti-racism. Schedule in the first one for when you're able to sit down and fully appreciate it. This resources list notes a few.
