The Eindhoven Engine, an ambitious innovation project in the Brainport region, was launched Monday 15th 2019 with a kick off event in the Auditorium of the Technical University. Radio 4 Brainport was among about 300 visitors to report on the meeting.
Taking a historical perspective, Jan Mengelers, the president of the university’s executive board, identified the kitchentable as key element that brought people together in Brabant. According to him, this helped to create a unique collaborative innovation environment, to which the Eindhoven Engine is the latest addition.
Maarten Steinbuch, who envisioned the Eindhoven Engine and will act as scientific lead, started his speech by explaining why innovation acceleration is necessary, and which were the 3 main drivers he had identified. He continued to explain what impact – in his view – the Eindhoven Engine should have on the university. Finally, he gave a short recap how to explain what the Eindhoven Engine is, and what he hoped to have realized in the future.
