He walks a lonesome road, but he carries the ever-burning lamp. He's the primal Yod, the secret seed, and the bringer of light. Whether climbing the mountain, or descending from the heights, he is wise with years of discernment. Give a hand to the Magus of the Voice of Power, the Magus of the Voice of Light, and the Prophet of the Eternal, the one and only Hermit!
And the crowd goes wild.
Welcome to episode IX of Fortune's Wheelhouse, featuring the Hermit, the card numbered IX in the Golden Dawn tradition. You can use the above image to follow along as we discuss the esoteric symbols of each card. Or if you have the decks, just get your cards out - and maybe a magnifying glass on occasion!
The Hermit is the sixth of our zodiacal trumps, associated with the sign of Virgo. This is Path 20 which crosses between Chesed (Mercy, color blue) and Tiphareth (Beauty, color golden yellow).
The four colors of the card according to the Golden Dawn color scales, per 777:
King Scale: Yellowish Green
Queen Scale: Slate Grey
Prince Scale: Greenish Grey
Princess Scale: Plum
In this and in subsequent podcast episodes, we will often reference the Tree of Life. For convenience a diagram called the "Minutum Mundum" is included here with just this card's path highlighted. This diagram will also be included in full color on its own page with other basic Qabalistic information, in the sections "Getting Started" and "Qabalah". There will be some basic definitions there of terms, so if this is new to you, have a look!
