Evening Conversation

Two young people (friends I made working on the farm in Phoenix) talk in the warm dark of an Arizona evening about the growing presence of technology and whether or not to fight it. I photographed them for a bit, playing with the angles of the porch and the contrast between light and dark. I think this photo turns the porch into a bit of an abstract shape, making the image more interesting maybe than if the camera had been held parallel to the ground. I want to do a painting from this series of photographs, to try and show the feeling of aimlessness and confusion that sometimes overcomes youth, as well as the mounting confusion as to what to how to adjust in our society that has in a matter of years been turned on its head by the presence of technology
