One of the things that delights me about sunrise and sunset shots is that they are simultaneously so common, and so captivating. The sun comes up every single day, and sets every single day. No two days are quite alike, but the phenomenon is the most predictable, mundane event anywhere. And yet, when you find a beautiful vantage point to watch the changing light, there is almost nothing else that is so captivating.
This sunset photo from the Grand Canyon is a great example. The majesty of the canyon is undeniable in any light, but when the sun is near the horizon, we get to see the intricate details and rich colors displayed in an even more stunning way. The sense of space draws the viewer in, providing a beautiful respite from the stresses of the day.
