Fake it 'til you make it?

I have never liked the phrase "fake it 'til you make it", but to a degree it has helped me. When I tell people I have social anxiety disorder they often seem surprised and tell me they think I'm a bubbly person. That is because I am totally terrified of embarrassing myself. I'm good at small talk because I hate awkward silence. I might seem comfortable on the outside, but on the inside a million little voices are screaming that I'm awkward and terrible and no one could possibly like me. Luckily I'm the only one who can hear those voices. Everyone else is fooled into thinking I'm normal-ish.
