Finding Broken Mods/CC (Sims 4)

This is the 50/50 process we recommend to anyone visiting our MCCC/Sims 4 Support Discord who is having issues with mods and/or custom content.  

Tips:

  • Leave MC Command Center and Resource.cfg in /Mods. MCCC's error-catching can make this process much easier for you.
  • One problem area can be avoided by keeping recolors and their meshes together in the SAME batch of test files.
  • Make sure no Script Mod is deeper than in /Mods or /Mods/Folder.  They won't work any farther down.
  • Any time you remove files from /Mods, you should also remove the localthumbcache.package file from /Sims 4.

Suggestion:  if the idea of "halfing" ALL your files at once seems like too much, consider 50/50ing all of your Game-changer Mods first, then all of your Build Buy (object)  Custom Content, and finally all of your CAS Custom Content.  

If you don't already have things separated by folders, now would be a great time for you to do that, also.  

Organization makes mod/cc upkeep SO much easier!

Follow these directions for Everything Else in your /Mods folder.


Start Here!

1) Divide suspect custom content in half.  Put each half in temporary folders on your Desktop.

Put the folder containing the first half of the suspect files into your Sims 4/Mods folder.

2) Test the first half of this batch of suspect files.

A) Result: The problem persists with only the first half of suspect files in place.

Problem is in the first half of the suspect files.  

Back to 1) Divide.

OR

B) Result: The problem disappears with only the first half of suspect files in place.

Remove the first half of the suspect files and put the second half in Sims 4/Mods.

3) Test second half of suspect content.

C) Result:  The problem persists with only the second half of suspect files in place.

Problem is in the second half of the suspect files.  

Back to 1) Divide.

OR

D) Result: The problem disappears with only the second half of suspect files in place.

You have a conflict between files in the first and second halves of suspect content.

4) Leave the first half in, and continue testing the second half until you have identified which file(s) in the second half are a problem.  Then put the second half's problem file(s) in and begin testing the first half for problem file(s).

5) Repeat until you have identified the individual problem file(s).
