April saw the release of Ron Hamrick's first solo album, "Musings" Ron, as many of you know is part of the band, The Sixth Generation. A band we fondly refer to as the "Fab Four of Radio Rock." Ron has been rocking the music scene since 1966 and is showing no signs of slowing down. He promises to release a new song once of month for 2017. We look forward to it! We were also treated to a very exclusive brand new song from Michigan band, "Willamena" Big thanks to Chad Hendrickson and the boys for letting Tom Slick have the first spin on, "Close Your Eyes."
Also this month, the Morning Brew with Tom Slick saw the debut of bands from Canada, Ireland, Wales, France, Alaska, Indiana, Florida, and Spain. From the Toronto music scene, we were treated to the hard rock sounds of Bedrokk, and their hit single, "Chasing the Sun." Eclectic singer/songwriter, Sabrina Fallah with tracks from her new album, "Kiss is a Killer."
Matthew Springfield, our very first artist from France, brought to us his dynamic new album, "Erase All Data." Boasting several hit songs our listeners have latched onto, such as, "Poplife, Things I've Said, and Haunted." Also from Europe we were introduced to Dennis McCalmont from Dublin, Ireland with three amazing tracks from his, "Songs of Perfection," EP. Darren Parry from Wales with several tracks from various albums that have made a true connection to Blitz listeners. Songs like, "That Feeling, So Into You, and The Grass Ain't Always Greener." Carlos Wilde from Spain brought to the Blitz a brand new single entitled, "Love Me."
Stateside here in the USA we were introduced to a band that totally blew our minds this week called, The Tomboys from Miami, Florida. This power-pop trio has a sound that took Miami by storm back in the 1980s. Leaving us to wonder, where the hell have these guys been? From the moment we heard, "All Dressed Up" we were sold on their sound. This track alone is easily a contender to be song of the year for Radio Rock. Keep tuned into the Blitz as this week we have been granted the opportunity to spin their brand new single, "Always After You" releasing May 2nd.
Continuing across the USA we stop in Indiana for the inspirational genre sound of Jennifer Mlott. Her single, "Someone else's Moon" introduced us to one of the most original sounding love songs we've heard in a long time.
Going to the furthest state in the union, we found ourselves in Alaska with our first ever artist from Anchorage, Chris Watkins, who shared with us a track from his brand new album, "Lights All Askew". Chris picked up the guitar at the age of 8 and by 16 had formed his first band, "The Drunk Poets." which have been a huge part of Anchorage 90s music scene. Now we have him here on the Blitz.
Rounding out our tour in our home state, California, Hollywood to be exact with Rex Macadangdang. Rex is no stranger to the Blitz. We have been blessed to be with Rex from his first time ever being on the radio and watching him continue to grow as a magnificent songwriter, especially with his newest single that dropped on April 14th, called, "Ride it Out."
That's 10 brand new artists just in April alone Blitzers, and more arriving daily. Tom Slick's Morning Brew show has truly been blessed by the best of the best in the indie music scene. We cannot thank the artists enough for their generosity to our station, providing music that far surpasses what's on mainstream radio today. Don't believe us? Tune in Monday through Friday and find out!
We also want to take this opportunity to thank our British street team, LoveShack Andy, and Sarah Middleton with her son Ollie. also fellow Blitzers, Carmen, and Luiza. And not to forget many of our artists share us like crazy as well. They go into action everyday and share tweets, Instagrams, and FB shouts for all of the artists we play on our station.
