We did these all the time in my high school creative writing classes. We called them "Finger Exercises." The rules are, I put down the starting line and then write for 15 minutes without stopping. No pausing to think, no going back to edit or revise. If I can't think of anything clever to write, I write something stupid. If I can't think of anything to write at all, I repeat the last word or sentence over and over again until I do think of something. Also, I can finish the sentence I'm on when the time is up, but then I have to stop. When I post it, I'll fix typos and the more unbearably shameful grammar mistakes, but that's it. What I wrote is what you get. I reserve the right to not post what I've written if it turns out to be extremely personal or something. This has yet to happen. Patrons can send me lines and prompts, or else I get them from random places on the internet. What's wonderful about this format is that it tends to prompt all sorts of uninhibited wildness, as I am unburdened with a need to explain things adequately or make sense of the nonsense I produce. I can toss in strange or surreal details at my whim. In fact, since the rule is that I can't stop to think about what I'm writing, I often have no choice. Here's a list of what I've written so far: December #36: The asteroid was hurtling straight for Earth... http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1348993 #37: The asteroid was hurtling straight for Earth... http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1365971 #38: The asteroid was hurtling straight for Earth... http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1386404 November #31: Ashley stared at the fruit, so lost in amazement that she didn't think to comment on its size. http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1200182 #32: Let's go back to the beginning: http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1268071 #33: The first few seconds http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1283252 #34: While shopping in a department store during the holidays, a child is separated from his or her parents and discovers a portal to a winter wonderland. http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1284446 #35: The entire text of Flash Fiction #34 :3 http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1284466 October #26: "And now I draw my father's sword in the name of evil" http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1055666 #27: A middle-aged man wakes up in a seemingly endless field of wildflowers in full bloom. http://www.patreon.com/creation?hid=1102133 #28: You've been supporting the hero since your journey began.
