German Expressionism

Though it may not be readily apparent, the German Expressionist movement is a major influence on my work. The use of type and print (thus my wish I understood how to make good prints that sell), importance of brash lines and color, blacks, centrality of the human figure, and the boldness of being THIS movement at THAT time in THAT country. Probably the modern art movement I feel the greatest affinity for.  If I were to list a few of the artists I would point you towards, it would be Kandinsky, Kirchner, Nolde, Oppenheimer, and Schiele. Kirschner in particular, and the manner in which he chooses the use of color in his painted figurative work is a direct influence on me.
