When Dram speaks of forests he speaks of uninterrupted, or almost uninterrupted, woodland, which is the meaning that comes most readily to mind for me. For my ancestors the meaning was quite different. Forest was hunting preserve, possibly wooded, but not necessarily so. Dram is puzzled by the concept of hunting preserves, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they were known in ancient Khyre. Those that survived the Hoysarn Interregnum needed to make a living however they could, and the new ruling class that emerged around that time needed to signal strongly that they were more worthy than their antecedents. That’s a combination that ensured that anyone in the provinces who has the time and the inclination to hunt may do so.
