Participated in NaNoWriMo this November and... wrote most of the first draft for the sequel to After Oil. I'm still working on completing that which is why I dropped off the face of the planet for a bit. It took a lot to write 50k inside of a month, but I managed to not only pull that off but also a whopping 80k. I haven't stopped writing either -- while the first draft is not completely finished the count is up to 97k, according to Scrivener. That matches the final word count for After Oil but, at the same time, there is so much story still left to include. Okay, okay, I can sense someone out there saying, "So, what's this novel called?" I've tentatively named it The Last Iron Horse, and yes, it does include Derek again. For some reason people love this character. He's not the main character but one of. I think I can finally deliver on the ensemble cast that was supposed to be included in After Oil but, alas, when the crash ate 75% of that final manuscript I could only pull so much of it together. I can safely say that as much as--despite the loss--there was to After Oil that this novel will make After Oil seem like a short, and light, prologue to the bigger series. I think there will be one more after this, perhaps two, and then I will end the series with four full books.
